Started back in 1988 in the suburbs of London, Upfront soon became one of the major players within the underground dance music scene, offering their support and services to other promoters, selling tickets, merchandise and flyer distribution for all events across the UK.
Upfront soon started putting on their own parties and were responsible for some of the best acid house and jungle parties the south of England has ever seen.
Upfront’s involvement expanded into several London radio stations and recording studios within the Watford and Hackney areas, influencing the foundation of rave music.
In 1992, Upfront started up its own DJ and MC agency, specifically to try and help up and coming DJs and MCs to break through into the mainstream. Some of them are now smashing it out around the world today.
Continuing with their events around the country, Upfront spent three years in Ibiza, putting on some of the best “Summer Of Love” parties the island has ever seen, with parties being continued on to the beaches of Sant Antoni. Upfront’s journey throughout Europe continued, covering Saint Omer (France) and Charleroi (Belgium), before returning back home to the UK.
2009 saw the “Summer Time Lick Tour”, with big artists such as Slipmatt, Ellis Dee, Devious D, and Baby D (to name but a few) headlining the tour. It showed that the old skool vibe was still there and going strong. However, Upfront’s roots have always been jungle and drum n bass. May of 2010 saw the biggest drum n bass tour start, In Search Of Space 2010 Tour.
The name for the tour was chosen from an event that had happened some 22 years earlier, when the government said, “This music and culture is only a fad, and will not last” ! (1988) How wrong was they??? hahaah.
The tour, one of the biggest the scene as ever seen, included many towns around the UK: Harlow (Essex), Southend (Essex), Walthamstow (London), Portsmouth (Hampshire), Bristol, Bishops Stortford (Hertfordshire), Southsea (Hampshire), Peterborough, and Nottingham.
So, whatz next ?……….
